Titanic acid is a general name for a family of chemical compounds of the elements titanium, hydrogen, and oxygen, with the general formula [TiOx(OH)4−2x]n. Various simple titanic acids have been claimed, mainly in the older literature. No crystallographic and little spectroscopic support exists for these materials. Some older literature including Brauer's Handbook refers to TiO2 as titanic acid.

White powder, odorless, slightly astringent taste, non-dangerous and non-toxic.The chemical properties are relatively stable, and it is amphoteric (partially acidic), insoluble in water, fatty acids, and weak inorganic acids.

When heated, it is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid. It can react with alkali metal carbonate to form titanate and react with metal sodium to form sodium titanate. Titanium tetroxide is formed under the action of the chlorinating agent, which can be reduced to metallic titanium by hydrogen under certain conditions.

Does not react with carbon dioxide, oxygen, sulfur dioxide, etc. in the atmosphere. It turns yellow when heated and reappears white when cold. At a calcination temperature of 800 to 850 degrees Celsius, dehydration is converted into titanium dioxide.

Application:

1. Used in the production of titanium dioxide, nano titanium dioxide, titanium-based catalyst carrier.
2. Used to prepare titanium sulfate, titanyl sulfate, potassium fluorocitrate, titanium tetroxide, and titanium metal products.

3. It can be used as a catalyst, chemical fiber matting agent, seawater adsorbent, and post-treatment agent for the production of chlorinated titanium dioxide.

4. It is the raw material for the production of titanates such as barium titanate, strontium titanate, and calcium titanate.

5. It is a raw material for the production of titanium pigments such as titanium chrome yellow.
